Amazing Grace History
The lyrics for Amazing Grace were written by John Newton in 1772. Since then, it has grown to become one of the most popular hymns among Christians, because of its vivid illustration God’s grace. The lyrics are based on 1 Chronicles 17:16-17, a pray of King David that marvels at God’s decision to choose him and his house.
Excerpt from Wikipedia
Amazing grace, how sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me.
I once was lost but now am found
Was blind but now I see.
‘Twas grace that taught my heart to fear
And grace my fears relieved.
How precious did that grace appear
The hour I first believed.
