Scotland the Brave Lyrics
Hark when the night is falling
Hear! Hear the pipes are calling,
Loudly and proudly calling,
Down thro’ the glen.
There where the hills are sleeping,
Now feel the blood a-leaping,
High as the spirits of the old Highland men.

Lyrics
I am the wee falorie man
A rattling, roving Irishman,
I can do all that ever you can
For I am the wee falorie man.

I have a sister Mary Ann
She washes her face in the frying pan,
And out she goes to hunt for a man
I have a sister Mary Ann.

I am a good old working man,
Each day I carry a wee tin can
A large penny bap and a clipe of ham
I am a good old working man.

Lavender’s Blue, is an English folk song from the 17th century. It was featured in the Walt Disney’s feature film “So Dear to My Heart,” performed by Burl Ives.”

Lyrics
Lavender’s blue, dilly dilly, lavender’s green,
When I am king, dilly, dilly, you shall be queen.
Who told you so, dilly, dilly, who told you so?
‘Twas my own heart, dilly, dilly, that told me so.

Call up your men, dilly, dilly, set them to work,
Some with a rake, dilly, dilly, some with a fork.
Some to make hay, dilly, dilly, some to thresh corn,
While you and I, dilly, dilly, keep ourselves warm.

Lavender’s green, dilly, dilly, Lavender’s blue,
If you love me, dilly, dilly, I will love you.
Let the birds sing, dilly, dilly, And the lambs play,
We shall be safe, dilly, dilly, Out of harm’s way.

“The Minstrel Boy” is an Irish patriotic song written by Thomas Moore (1779-1852) who set it to the melody of The Moreen, an old Irish air. It is widely believed that Moore composed the song in remembrance of a number of his friends, whom he met while studying at Trinity College, Dublin and who had participated in (and were killed during) the 1798 rebellion of the United Irishmen. However, the song gained widespread popularity and became a favourite of many Irishmen who fought during the United States Civil War and gained even more popularity after World War I. The song is notably associated with organisations that historically had a heavy representation of Irish-Americans, in particular the police and fire departments of New York, Boston and Chicago and those of various other major US metropolitan areas, even after those organisations have ceased to have a substantial over-representation of personnel of Irish ancestry.

Excerpt from Wikipedia

Lyrics

The Minstrel Boy to the war is gone
In the ranks of death you will find him;
His father’s sword he hath girded on,
And his wild harp slung behind him;”
Land of Song!” said the warrior bard,
“Tho’ all the world betrays thee,
One sword, at least, thy rights shall guard,
One faithful harp shall praise thee!”

Molly Malone” (also known as “Cockles and Mussels” or “In Dublin’s Fair City“) is a popular song, set in Dublin, Ireland, which has become the unofficial anthem of Dublin City. It has also in Ireland acquired the status of an Irish anthem. The song is sung by supporters of Dublin GAA, Leinster Rugby teams, Gillingham FC and the Irish international rugby team. It was also featured in the film, A Clockwork Orange.

Excerpt from Wikipedia

Lyrics
In Dublin’s fair city,
Where the girls are so pretty,
I first set my eyes on sweet Molly Malone,
As she wheel’d her wheel barrow,
Thro’ streets broad and narrow…

Chorus Crying, “Cockles and Mussels alive, alive-O!
Alive, alive-O! Alive, alive-O!”
Crying, “Cockles and Mussels alive, alive-O!”

The name “Kanaka” is given to the Sandwich Islanders who traveled by ship between California and the Sandwich Islands and eventually formed a colony in San Diego.  The name answered to both collectively and individually. As their proper names were often difficult to pronounce, the captains or crews gave them other names. Some were named after the ship in which they sailed, and others after common names such as Bill, Tom or John.
