Lyrics for ‘Short’nin’ Bread’

Put on the skillet,
Slip on the lid,
Mama’s gonna make
A little short’nin’ bread.
That ain’t all
She’s gonna do,
Mama’s gonna make
A little coffee, too.

Mama’s little baby loves
Short’nin’, short’nin’,
Mama’s little baby loves
Short’nin’ bread,
Mama’s little baby loves
Short’nin’, short’nin’,
Mama’s little baby loves
Short’nin’ bread.

Three little children,
Lyin’ in bed
Two were sick
And the other ‘most dead
Sent for the doctor
And the doctor said,
“Give those children some
Short’nin’ bread.”

Mama’s little baby loves
Short’nin’, short’nin’,
Mama’s little baby loves
Short’nin’ bread,
Mama’s little baby loves
Short’nin’, short’nin’,
Mama’s little baby loves
Short’nin’ bread.

Mama’s little baby loves
Short’nin’, short’nin’,
Mama’s little baby loves
Short’nin’ bread,
Mama’s little baby loves
Short’nin’, short’nin’,
Mama’s little baby loves
Short’nin’ bread.

When those children,
Sick in bed,
Heard that talk
About short’nin’ bread,
Popped up well
To dance and sing,
Skipped around and cut
The pigeon wing.

Mama’s little baby loves
Short’nin’, short’nin’,
Mama’s little baby loves
Short’nin’ bread,
Mama’s little baby loves
Short’nin’, short’nin’,
Mama’s little baby loves
Short’nin’ bread.

Slip to the kitchen,
Slip up the led,
Filled my pockets full of
Short’nin’ bread;
Stole the skillet,
Stole the led,
Stole the gal makin’
Short’nin’ bread.

Mama’s little baby loves
Short’nin’, short’nin’,
Mama’s little baby loves
Short’nin’ bread,
Mama’s little baby loves
Short’nin’, short’nin’,
Mama’s little baby loves
Short’nin’ bread.

Caught me with the skillet,
Caught me with the led,
Caught me with the gal makin’
Short’nin’ bread;
Paid six dollars for the skillet,
Six dollars for the led,
Spent six months in jail eatin’
Short’nin’ bread.

Mama’s little baby loves
Short’nin’, short’nin’,
Mama’s little baby loves
Short’nin’ bread,
Mama’s little baby loves
Short’nin’, short’nin’,
Mama’s little baby loves
Short’nin’ bread.

Yellow Bird began as a Choucoune –  a 19th century Haitian song . The original song was composed by Michel Mauléart Monton with the lyrics written by Oswald Durand from a poem.  The popular calypso style arrangement that we know today was created for the Norman Luboff Choir. The lyrics for this new setting were written by Academy Award winning song writers, Alan and Marilyn Bergman. Norman Luboff’s ‘Yellow Bird’ was recorded on Calypso Holiday in 1957.

Lyrics for Yellow Bird

Yellow bird,
Up high in banana tree,
Yellow bird,
You sit all alone like me

Did your lady frien’,
Leave de nest again?
Dat is very sad,
Make me feel so bad,
You can fly away,
In the sky away,
You’re more lucky dan me.

French Lyrics for ‘Au Clair de la Lune’

Au clair de la lune,
Mon ami Pierrot,
Prête-moi ta plume
Pour écrire un mot.
Ma chandelle est morte,
Je n’ai plus de feu.
Ouvre-moi ta porte
Pour l’amour de Dieu.

English Lyrics for ‘Au Clair de la Lune’

By the light of the moon,
My friend Pierrot,
Lend me your quill
To write a word.
My candle is dead,
I have no light left.
Open your door for me
For the love of God.

Lyrics for ‘Rockin’ Robin’ (Michael Jackson Version)

He rocks in the tree tops all day long
Hoppin’ and a-boppin’ and singing his song
All the little birdies on Jaybird Street
Love to hear the robin go tweet tweet tweet.
Rockin’ robin, rock rock
Rockin’ robin’
Blow rockin’ robin
‘Cause we’re really gonna rock tonight.
Every little swallow, every chick-a-dee
Every little bird in the tall oak tree
The wise old owl, the big black crow
Flappin’ their wings singing go bird go.
Rockin’ robin, rock rock
Rockin’ robin’
Blow rockin’ robin
‘Cause we’re really gonna rock tonight.
Pretty little raven at the bird-band stand
Told them how to do the bob and it was grand
They started going steady and bless my soul
He out-bopped the buzzard and the oriole.
He rocks in the tree tops all day long
Hoppin’ and a-boppin’ and singing his song
All the little birdies on Jaybird Street
Love to hear the robin go tweet tweet tweet.

Humpty Dumpty | Lyrics, Free Piano & Guitar Sheet Music and Video

Humpty Dumpty is a character from an English nursery rhyme.  It it likely that it was  originally a popular riddle. The character is typically portrayed as an egg, though the text bears no reference to that. The first versions of this nursery rhyme date from the late eighteenth-century and the melody from 1870. Humpty Dumpty is referred to in many books and throughout popular culture, most notably Lewis Carroll’s Through the Looking-Glass (1872).

Lyrics for ‘On Top of Old Smoky’

On top of old smokey.
On top of old smokey all covered with snow
I lost my true lover for courting too slow
For courting’s a pleasure and parting’s a grief
And a false hearted lover is worse than a thief
For a thief will just rob you and take all you save
But a false hearted lover will lead you to the grave
And the grave will decay you and turn you to dust
Not one girl in a hundred a poor boy can trust
They’ll hug you and kiss you and tell you more lies
Than cross lines on a railroad or stars in the skies
So come all your maidens and listen to me
Never place your affections on a green willow tree
For the leaves they will wither and the roots they will die
You’ll all be forsaken and never know why.

Parody for ‘On Top of Old Smoky’

On top of Old Smokey,
All covered with sand,
I shot my school teacher,
With an old rubber band.

I shot her with pleasure,
I shot her with pride,
For I couldn’t miss her,
She was forty feet wide.

She run out and catched me,
Throwed me ‘cross her knee,
But in the seat of my britches,
I had my old Geography.

She reached for her ruler,
And took a swipe at me,
She missed old Kentucky,
But she hit Tennessee.

Lyrics for ‘Gesu Bambino’

When blossoms flowered ‘mid the snows
Upon a winter night,
Was born the Child, the Christmas Rose,
The King of Love and Light.

The angels sang, the shepherds sang,
The grateful earth rejoiced;
And at His blessed birth the stars
Their exultation voiced.

O come let us adore Him,
O come let us adore Him,
O come let us adore Him,
Christ the Lord.

Again the heart with rapture glows
To greet the holy night,
That gave the world its Christmas Rose,
Its King of Love and Light.

Let ev’ry voice acclaim His name,
The grateful chorus swell.
From paradise to earth He came
That we with Him might dwell.

O come let us adore Him,
O come let us adore Him,
O come let us adore Him,
Christ the Lord.
