“Mary Had a Little Lamb” is an English language nursery rhyme from the 19th century. The poem was first published in Boston by publishing firm Marsh, Capen & Lyon. It is by Sarah Josepha Hale, and is believed to be inspired by an actual event.

In Thomas Edison’s first recording of the human voice in 1877, he recited Mary Had a Little Lamb. He recorded it again in 1927 for posterity.
