Beriozka (The Birch Tree) | Lyrics, Piano Sheet Music & Video

Beriozka or The Birch Tree, is a classic traditional Russian Folksong, which is believed to have been written two centuries ago. Commonly known as “In The Field Stood A Birch Tree” in English, this song has many variations on its name, including “Berezka”, “Beroza” or “Beriozka.” It is quite popular among composers and personalities, who have incorporated it in their works. Tchaikovsky included Beriozka in the last movement of his Fourth Symphony, while Dario Mariannelli used the song in his musical score for the film, “Anna Karenina.”

Lyrics for ‘Beriozka’

See the lovely birch in the meadow,
Curly leaves all dancing when the wind blows.
Loo-lee-loo, when the wind blows,
Loo-lee-loo, when the wind blows.

Oh, my little tree, I need branches,
For the silver flutes I need branches.
Loo-lee-loo, three branches,
Loo-lee-loo, three branches.

From another birch I will make now,
I will make a tingling balalaika.
Loo-lee-loo, balalaika,
Loo-lee-loo, balalaika.

When I play my new balalaika,
I will think of you, my lovely birch tree.
Loo-lee-loo, lovely birch tree,
Loo-lee-loo, lovely birch tree.

Alouette | Lyrics, Beginner Piano Sheet Music & Video

Alouette is a popular French Canadian children’s song commonly thought to be about  plucking the feathers of a lark. The song was first published in A Pocket Song Book for the Use of Students and Graduates of McGill College in 1879. Canadian folklorist Marius Barbeau suggested that the French colonists used songs like Alouette to dip their canoe paddles in unison.

Although a French song, Alouette is well-known throughout the world. This is due in part because Marines and other Allied soldiers learned the song while serving in France during World War I, and then passed it on to their children and grandchildren.

The Campbells Are Coming | Free Celtic Piano Sheet Music

“The Campbells Are Coming,” is a Scottish bagpipe hymn associated with the Campbell clan, a Highland clan.

“The Campbells Are Coming” was composed around 1715. There are several theories about its origin, but the most popular theory suggests that the tune was inspired by the war of the Jacobite rising of 1715. It was played by the vanguard of the loyalist Scottish troops as they marched in opposition to the Jacobite rebels.

Lyrics for ‘The Campbells Are Coming’

The Campbells are comin, Oho! Oho!
The Campbells are comin, Oho! Oho!
The Campbells are comin to bonnie Lochleven,
The Campbells are comin, Oho! Oho!
Upon the Lomonds I lay, I lay,
Upon the Lomonds I lay, I lay,
I looked down to bonnie Lochleven,
And saw three bonnie perches play. The Campbells are comin, Oho! Oho!
The Campbells are comin, Oho! Oho!
The Campbells are comin to bonnie Lochleven,
The Campbells are comin, Oho! Oho!Great Argyle he goes before,
He makes his cannons and guns to roar,
Wi’ sound o’ trumpet, pipe and drum,
The Campbells are comin Oho, Oho!The Campbells are comin, Oho! Oho!
The Campbells are comin, Oho! Oho!
The Campbells are comin to bonnie Lochleven,
The Campbells are comin, Oho! Oho!The Campbells they are a’ in arms,
Their loyal faith and truth to show,
Wi’ banners rattling in the wind,
The Campbells are comin Oho, Oho!The Campbells are comin, Oho! Oho!
The Campbells are comin, Oho! Oho!
The Campbells are comin to bonnie Lochleven,
The Campbells are comin, Oho! Oho!

Cackle, Cackle, Mother Goose | Easy Piano Sheet Music (PDF)

The classic nursery rhyme, “Cackle, Cackle, Mother Goose”, dates from the 1600s and is a classic Mother Goose Nursery Rhyme. The word “cackle” is an onomatopoeia for the sound that a goose makes.

Lyrics for ‘Cackle, Cackle, Mother Goose’

Cackle, cackle, Mother Goose,
Have you any feathers loose?
Truly have I, pretty fellow,
Half enough to fill a pillow.
Here are quills, take one or two,
And down to make a bed for you.

Cackle, cackle, Mother Goose,
Have you any feathers loose?
Truly have I, pretty fellow,
Half enough to fill a pillow.
Here are quills, take one or two,
And down to make a bed for you.

Doctor Foster | Lyrics, Free Guitar Sheet Music, and Video (Mother Goose)

Doctor Foster is an English nursery rhyme which dates back to nineteenth century England. Its first recorded version was in 1810 on Gamer Gurton’s Garland. It was then followed by a modern version of the tune which was published in 1844. The Real Mother Goose published their version of the rhyme in 1916 with Blanche Fisher Wright as its illustrator.

The song proved to be interesting as several theories have been presented regarding the story behind it. One of them states that it is about an event in English history that occurred during the Plantagenet monarchy. It suggests that the rhyme may have been based on King Edward I and the time he visited Gloucester. He fell from his horse down into a puddle, which happened in front of many people. This event greatly embarrassed the king and resulted to him never returning.

Others believe that Doctor Foster is about a play titled Doctor Faustus, an Elizabethan tragedy written by Christian Marlowe. The play is about a protagonist named “Doctor Fauster,” because he caused a person to fall in the river when the horse, whom he conjured from a straw, reverted back to its original form while passing through a river.

Lyrics for ‘Doctor Foster’

Doctor Foster went to Gloucester,
In a shower of rain;
He stepped in a puddle,
Right up to his middle,
And never went there again.
